A fake store uses your photos and products. Shoppers think it’s you. When their order never arrives, your name is on the complaint.
“Where is my order?”
I ordered from northfell-sale.com last week. Nothing’s arrived and nobody is replying.
Isn’t this your store?
Copying a store takes minutes. Finding out late costs far more. Recon checks in the background, so you’re not the last to know.
A copier needs your photos, your product names and your look. All of it is public. You don’t need to be famous to be a target.
The first sign is usually a confused customer, a refund request or a bad review about an order you never took.
A clone reported in its first week reaches fewer shoppers than one found months later. Each day it stays up, it trades on your name.
Most months, there’s nothing to do. Recon runs quietly in the background. When something needs you, it tells you, with the evidence ready.
Our research: Recon has found 153,502 clones of Shopify stores, and one operation runs 1,732 of them.
See each clone, the evidence behind it and where to report it, inside Shopify.
Clones and suspicious addresses appear in your Shopify admin, ready to review.

See the copied page, when it appeared, the registrar and where to report it.

Recon finds who to report to, from the registrar and the host to browser blocklists, and writes every takedown notice for you. Review it, send it and follow the domain’s status. Early access on Pro: one click, and Recon files the reports for you.
The host or registrar decides on removal. Recon never removes sites itself.

Clones come first. Recon also checks your email settings and your domain.

Brand protection helps you identify and respond when someone uses your store’s name, photos or website to impersonate your business. Recon focuses on store clones, suspicious lookalike domains, email settings that need attention and domain health. It gives Shopify merchants evidence and reporting tools to respond.
It is another website using your store’s pages, photos or branding to look like you. Shoppers can mistake it for your business. Recon’s optional theme block records when copied theme code loads on another domain; lookalike domain checks can find suspicious addresses too. A similar address alone is not proof of a scam.
Yes. On every plan, Recon finds who to report each clone to: the registrar, the host, the registry and browser blocklists such as Google Safe Browsing and Microsoft. It writes the takedown notices with your evidence, ready for you to review and send. Pro customers can join early access, where you authorize Recon once and it files the reports for you in one click. The host or registrar still decides whether and when to remove the site. Recon rechecks the domain so you can follow its status.
Install Recon to start domain and email checks. To detect store clones, enable the optional detection block in your Shopify theme. It adds a small inline script, loads no external file, and returns immediately on your own domains. It sends page details when your theme loads elsewhere, never customer data.
With the theme block enabled, Recon records a clone when copied theme code loads on another domain. Paid users receive an instant email alert. Free users hear in their weekly summary, which can mean a wait of up to a week. Domain scans run daily on Paid and weekly on Free.
Recon checks your email authentication settings and prepares missing records for you to add at your domain host. These settings help inbox providers verify legitimate senders and reject forged email. These settings can help your emails reach customers, though they can’t guarantee inbox delivery.
